1. Compassion

Along with empathy, compassion for others is an important trait found in genuine people. Many people display compassion, in fact it is hardly a unique attribute, however even the deepest compassion will not give starving children food or the sick their medicine.

Only compassionate actions can solve these problems.

So develop your humanitarian compassion and get involved in at least some type of action that will help others.

You will feel enriched in ways that will build valuable character.

2. Humility

Confidence is a jewel in the self improvement crown, but arrogant over confidence diminishes respect and can repel people away.

Humility, combined with self confidence is a powerful attitude and by harnessing the confident-yet-humble mindset others will respect your integrity.

3. Positivity

Doom and gloom rarely attract the affections of others and only ever seem to garner respect if you are a scientist, politician or a journalist.

Being that you probably are not one of those three, it will benefit you greatly to adopt a strong level of positivity.

A positive outlook attracts the admiration and respect of others, because it makes them feel good and they will view you in an affirmative light.

4. Temper Control

Your temper is often the quality by which others will both judge you and decide if you are of critical value.

No matter how strong your other qualities are, one bad aggressive outburst will lose the respect of many people in your life.

No one is perfect, this is true and every one is going to have confrontations - it's almost unavoidable, but going beetroot red and screaming at the top of your lungs simply won't clarify your point or win you any arguments.

If you want to be the kind of person who gains respect through their success then you must manage your temper and handle confrontations with a calm and tactful demeanor.

5. Will Power

Genuine will power is the ultimate test of one's mental strength and intestinal fortitude.

Displaying will power shows others your inner courage and valuable integrity. You can boost your will power by exercising control over your life and making good decisions.

Employing methods to elicit a stronger will is a rewarding strategy, but like anything worth while it isn't easy. If you consistently succeed in showing a strong will, you will be building integrity on a daily basis - A real achievement.

6. Empathy

Understanding the emotions of others by using your own emotional experience, helps you relate to people on a very deep personal level.

When you give genuine empathy to someone you offer them a level of respect that forms a platform of trust and helps build integrity in their eyes.

7. Be Yourself - Your Best Self

Yes, we are all unique and have many worthy characteristics, but striving to be even better and achieve our best "self" helps illuminate our individual attributes and helps earn praise and respect, above and beyond the standard "warts 'n' all" approach of some.

To be human is fantastic and keeping it real is important, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't work hard to be a better person and just accept less.

There is a very real pecking order in life and those who choose to enact their best selves are usually the ultimate winners.

8. Consistency

Don't interpret this to mean predictably boring - no, not at all, I know many consistently hilarious people who are anything but boring.

Having a level approach to all of life's situations is the best way to act, after all, most people who are up and down are often perceived to lack control and get labeled "flaky".

A powerful, resolute and rational individual can be relied upon when needed - Is that you? Be consistent and you will build a level of integrity that others will come to trust.

9. Be Decisive

If indecisiveness is a perceived weakness, then surely a decisive, consummate and precise person will be revered as strong.

Make choices in a firm, clear manner and be proud of your judgment.

Having faith in your ability to make the right choice shows a confident volition and will show the sort of leadership qualities that will earn you much respect.

10. Have Foresight

No body expects you to have a crystal ball, but if you have a "ball park" figure of foreseeable future events you will prevent needless stress and panic that loses respect.

The solution is to think forward and think laterally, good forward thinkers are an indispensable commodity.

Make yourself think forward and help avoid pitfalls that beset those who travel through life blindly.

11. Honesty

There is no single attribute that will assist you in building integrity more than honesty.

Honesty says you are a person of the highest moral quality and you a trustworthy as well as puritanical.

Those who follow dishonest means will always lose respect and the faith of those around them.

Being honest isn't about being blatant or tactless, you just have to speak the truth when prompted and from time to time you will suffer the consequences of not telling people what they want to hear, but the overwhelming response of others will be of admiration and respect.

12. Make Your Word Valuable

Have you ever offered to do something for someone and you didn't show, or has that ever happened to you? Have you ever broken a promise?

Your word is the yardstick by which many others including yourself will make evaluations about you.

If your goal is building integrity and success, the kind that genuine people have, then you should be committed to making your word as good as a contract.

Never agree to something or offer something that you just can't follow through with or you will start to devalue your integrity.

The best solution to achieve this is to err on the side of caution - it's better to be frugal than to make a false promise and let someone down.

13. Fairness

By being firm but fair, we can be assertive with out ever resorting to aggression or ill discipline.

Displaying fair resolution to tricky situations shows the characteristic qualities of a leader and will earn you power and respect among others.

14. Assertiveness

No one expects you to just lay down and take it, but many people throw their paradigm and call for all out war.

Being assertive is about having the courage to say how you feel without losing control and resorting to immature arguments.

Aggression is best left to times of self defense, not for an overcharged grocery receipt. If you keep a level head and show composure you will earn the respect of those around you.

15. Be Respectful

One of the hallmarks of a person with integrity is the way the treat others in a courteous, respectful manner.

Look at your interactions with others and take note of whether you pay attention to what they say.

Are you disagreeable or dismissive? By paying attention and focus to the viewpoints of those around you, you develop a trust and respect that resonates and grows.

16. Accountability

Again - No one is perfect (I try) and sometimes people of the highest caliber can make mistakes, but how they deal with their errors is a real measure of their worth.

Sometimes you have to admit your wrong doings and take the blame - is there anything more snake like than a person who tries to shift the blame on to some one else?

Taking responsibility for your "slip-ups" shows real character and is an important step in building integrity, it can actually feel good too.

The relief that honesty and accountability brings should make you think that it is the path you aim to take.

Just be sure to learn from your mistakes or you may start to look a little silly.





Being a role model or a leader is an important goal if success is your ultimate ambition.

Building integrity will show others that you are a person of substance and that the decisions you make should be followed.
